Honey Glazed Turnips

The honey glaze provides a sweet counterpoint while the cider vinegar adds a sour note to a turnip’s slightly bitter edge.

Ingredients

  • 2 TB vegetable oil
  • ½ cup chopped onions
  • 2 cups diced turnips
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp pepper
  • ¼ cup water
  • 1-2 TB honey
  • 2 tsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 TB chopped parsley

Method

Step 1

Heat vegetable oil in a heavy skillet over medium high heat.

Step 2

Add onions and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

Step 3

Add turnips, salt, pepper, and water. Stir to combine ingredients and cook about 10 minutes to soften turnips.

Step 4

Once turnips are soft but not mushy, add honey, and vinegar. Continue to cook until excess liquid has evaporated.

Step 5

Depending on how dark the honey was to begin with, there may not be much color in the pan. Watch the bottom of the pan to determine if excess liquid is evaporated.

Step 6

Once turnips are glazed, adjust salt if necessary. Stir in parsley. Serve hot.
